What is JADAID 2021?

The new European Directive on Copyright and Related Rights in the Digital Single Market may open up a wide range of opportunities for the development of digital collections in libraries and cultural institutions, and even the revival of works outside commercial circuits. It may also have significant implications for text and data mining processes, which are so relevant in the new digital economy. At the JADAID 2021 events, all aspects of the European Directive will be analyzed, including its interpretation, possibilities for transposition, opportunities for heritage and cultural institutions, as well as the information and data industries.

Sessions

The JADAID 2021 events will be held in digital format from May 24 to 28, with successive releases of recorded sessions, see full program:

  • Session 2. Works Outside Commercial Circuits: Licenses, Uses, and Applications
  • Session 3. Extended collective licensing: concept and experiences in Nordic countries
  • Session 4. The European Union’s objectives within the framework of Cultural Heritage
  • Session 5. Text and data mining for research in Documentation. Reuse of information

In the scheduled presentations and roundtables, some of the leading experts in copyright, heritage, academic authorities, professionals, and institutional representatives will participate; see list of speakers and participants.

Objectives

The following objectives are among those proposed:

  • Address from the perspective of documentary institutions the changes introduced by the 2019 Directive on copyright in the digital single market, which will affect them in the coming years.
  • Anticipate these changes by proposing solutions from within the institutions themselves, so that a thorough understanding of the challenges strengthens their position.
  • Foster a debate on the main problems and opportunities presented by these changes.
  • Act as a meeting point between rights holders and users to achieve a balanced ecosystem that promotes creativity and access to culture.
